THE MORE YOU READ THE FUNNIER IT GETS...... 1/24/14 10:48 PM
THE MORE YOU READ THE FUNNIER IT GETS......
$5.37!
That's what the kid
behind the counter at Taco Bell said to me.
I
dug into my pocket and pulled out some lint and two dimes and
something that used to be a Jolly
Rancher.
Having already handed the
kid a
five-spot, I started to head back out to the truck to grab
some change
when the kid with the Elmo hairdo
said the hardest thing anyone has ever said to
me.
He said, "It's OK. I'll just give you the senior
citizen discount."
I turned to see
who he was talking to and
then heard the sound of change hitting the counter in front of
me.
"Only $4.68"
he said cheerfully.
I stood there
stupefied. I am 56, not even 60 yet?
A mere
child!
Senior citizen?
I took my
burrito and walked out to the truck wondering what was wrong
with Elmo.
Was he blind?
As I
sat in the truck, my blood began to boil.
Old?
Me?
I'll show him, I thought.
I opened
the door and headed back inside. I strode to the
counter,
and there he was waiting with a
smile.
Before I could say a word, he held up
something
and jingled it in front of
me,
like I could be that easily
distracted!
What am I now?
A
toddler?
"Dude!
Can't get too far without your car keys,
eh?"
I stared with utter disdain at
the keys.
I began to rationalize in my
mind!
"Leaving
keys behind hardly makes a man
elderly!
It could happen to
anyone!"
I turned and headed back to
the truck.
I slipped the key into the
ignition, but it wouldn't turn.
What
now?
I checked my keys and tried
another.
Still nothing.
That's when I
noticed the purple beads
hanging from my rear view mirror.
I
had no purple beads
hanging from my rear view mirror.
Then, a
few other objects came into focus:
The car
seat in the back seat.
Happy Meal toys spread
all over the floorboard.
A partially eaten
dough nut on the dashboard.
Faster than you can say
ginkgo biloba, I
flew out of the alien
vehicle.
Moments later I was speeding out of
the parking lot,
relieved to finally be
leaving this nightmarish stop in my life.
That
is when I
felt it, deep in the bowels of my stomach:
hunger!
My stomach growled and churned, and I
reached to grab my burrito,
only it was
nowhere to be found.
I swung the truck around, gathered
my courage,
and strode back into the
restaurant one final time.
There Elmo stood,
draped in youth and black nail polish.
All I
could think was,
"What is the
world coming to?"
All I could say
was, "Did I leave my food and
drink in here"?
At this point I was
ready to ask a Boy Scout to help me back to my
vehicle,
and then go straight home and apply
for Social Security benefits.
Elmo had no
clue.
I walked back out to the
truck,
and suddenly a young lad came up and
tugged on my jeans to get my attention.
He was
holding up a drink and a bag.
His mother
explained,
"I
think you left this in my truck by
mistake."
I took the food and drink
from the little boy and sheepishly apologized.
She
offered these kind words:
"It's OK. My grandfather does stuff like
this all the time."
All of this is to
explain how I got a ticket doing 85 in a 40 mph
zone.
Yessss, I was racing
some punk kid in a Toyota Prius.
And no, I
told the officer, I'm not
too old to
be driving this fast.
As I walked in the front door, my
wife met me halfway down the hall.
I handed
her a bag of cold food and a $300 speeding
ticket.
I promptly sat in my rocking chair and
covered up my legs with a blankey.
The good
news was that I had successfully found my way
home.
Pass this on to the other "old fogies" on your
list (so they can have fun
laughing, too).
Notice the larger
type?
That's for those of us who
have trouble reading.
P.S. Save the earth...... It's
the only planet with chocolate!!!!!
Oops, did I send this to you
already?0 comments -
ONE OF THOSE DAYS 1/10/14 9:10 AM
ONE OF THOSE DAYS
As night slowly changes to day, drying the evening dew
Birds sing a song of love, to me and to you
Singing one of those days
One of those days to feel the warmth of the sun upon our face
To breathe the breath of life, given to us freely
To contently watch a streams water as it runs from distant snow
capped mountains, on its long journey to the sea
To peer into the sky and see and eagle in flight, forever so free
One of those days
One of those days to open our heart and eyes to the one true
light and recognize His truth, peace, and serenity
One of those days to see the children around the world play
without the scars of prejudice, injustice and hate
As loved one's embrace, tears of joy runs down their face
One of those days to share this world
One of those days to share, His love
One of those days to thank God, for all of our days
One of those days
Let it be today.......0 comments -

A Child's Kisses 6/21/13 10:45 AM
A Child's Kisses
The story goes that some time ago, a man punished his 3-year-old daughter for wasting a roll of gold wrapping paper. Money was tight, and he became infuriated when the child tried to decorate a box to put under the Christmas tree.
Nevertheless, the little girl brought the gift to her father the next morning and said, "This is for you, Daddy." He was embarrassed by his earlier overreaction, but his anger flared again when he found the box was empty. He yelled at her, "Don't you know when you give someone a present, there's supposed to be something inside it?"
The little girl looked up at him with tears in her eyes and said, "Oh, Daddy, it's not empty, I blew kisses into the box. All for you, Daddy." The father was crushed. He put his arms around his little girl, and he begged for her forgiveness.
An accident took the life of the child only a short time later, and it is told that the man kept that gold box by his bed for many years, and whenever he was discouraged, he would take out an imaginary kiss and remember the love of the child who had put it there.2 comments
The Visit 6/14/13 10:56 AM
The Visit
Ruth went to her mail box, and there was only one letter. She picked it up and looked at it before opening it, but then she looked at the letter again.
There was no stamp, no postmark, only her name and address. She read the letter:
Dear Ruth:
I'm going to be in your neighborhood Saturday afternoon, and I'd like to stop by for a visit.
Love Always,
Jesus
Her hands were shaking as she placed the letter on the table. "Why would the Lord want to visit me? I'm nobody special. I don't have anything to offer."
With that thought, Ruth remembered her empty kitchen cabinets. "Oh my goodness, I really don't have anything to offer. I'll have to run down to the store and buy something for dinner." She reached for her purse and counted out its contents. Five dollars and forty cents. "Well! I can get some bread and cold cuts, at least."
She threw on her coat and hurried out the door.
A loaf of French bread, a half-pound of sliced turkey, and a carton of milk...leaving Ruth with grand total twelve cents to last her until Monday.
Nonetheless, she felt good as she headed home, her meager offerings tucked under her arm.
"Hey lady, can you help us, lady?"
Ruth had been so absorbed in her dinner plans, she hadn't even noticed two figures huddled in the alleyway. A man and a woman, both of them dressed in little more than rags.
"Look lady, I ain't got a job, ya know, and my wife and I have been living out here on the street, and, well, now it's getting cold, and we're getting kinda hungry and, well, if you could help us, lady, we'd really appreciate it."
Ruth looked at them both.
They were dirty, they smelled bad, and frankly, she was certain that they could get some kind of work if they really wanted to.
"Sir, I'd like to help you, but I'm a poor woman myself. All I have is a few cold cuts and some bread, and I'm having an important guest for dinner tonight, and I was planning on serving that to Him."
"Yeah, well, okay lady, I understand. Thanks anyway."
The man put his arm around the woman's shoulders, turned, and headed back into the alley.
As she watched them leave, Ruth felt a familiar twinge in her heart.
"Sir, wait!" The couple stopped and turned as she ran down the alley after them. "Look, why don't you take this food. I'll figure out something else to serve my guest."
She handed the man her grocery bag.
"Thank you lady. Thank you very much!"
"Yes, thank you!" It was the man's wife, and Ruth could see now that she was shivering. "You know, I've got another coat at home. Here, why don't you take this one." Ruth unbuttoned her jacket and slipped it over the woman's shoulders. Then smiling, she turned and walked back to the street...without her coat and with nothing to serve her guest.
Ruth was chilled by the time she reached her front door and worried too. The Lord was coming to visit, and she didn't have anything to offer Him.
She fumbled through her purse for the door key. But as she did, she noticed another envelope in her mailbox.
"That's odd. The mailman doesn't usually come twice in one day." She took the envelope out of the box and opened it.
Dear Ruth:
It was so good to see you again. Thank you for the lovely meal. And thank you, too, for the beautiful coat.
Love Always,
Jesus
The air was still cold, but even without her coat, Ruth no longer noticed.

A Baby's Hug 6/4/13 9:44 AM
Today's Story
A Baby's Hug
We were the only family with children in the restaurant. I sat Erik in a high chair and noticed everyone was quietly seated and talking. Suddenly, Erik squealed with glee and said, "Hi there." He pounded his fat baby hands on the high chair tray. His eyes we crinkled in laughter and his mouth was bared in a toothless grin as he wriggled and giggled with merriment.
I looked around and saw the source of his merriment. It was a man whose pants were baggy whose toes poked out of would-be shoes. His shirt was dirty and his hair was uncombed and unwashed. His whiskers were too short to be called a beard, and his nose was so varicose that it looked like a road map.
We were too far from him to smell, but I was sure he smelled. His hands waved and flapped on loose wrists. "Hi there, baby; Hi there, big boy. I see ya, buster," the man said to Erik. My husband and I exchanged looks, "What do we do?" Erik continued to laugh and answer, "Hi, hi there." Everyone in the restaurant noticed and looked at us and then at the man. The old geezer was creating a nuisance with my beautiful baby.
Our meal came and the man began shouting from across the room, "Do ya patty cake? Do you know peek-a-boo? Hey, look, he knows peek-a-boo." Nobody thought the old man was cute. He was obviously drunk. My husband and I were embarrassed. We ate in silence but not Erik, who was running through his repertoire for the admiring skidrow bum, who in turn, reciprocated with his cute comments.
We finally got through the meal and headed for the door. My husband went to pay the check and told me to meet him in the parking lot. The old man sat poised between me and the door. "Lord, just let me out of here before he speaks to me or Erik," I prayed. As I drew closer to the man, I turned my back, trying to sidestep him and avoid any air he might be breathing. As I did, Erik leaned over my arm, reaching with both arms in a baby's "pick-me-up" position. Before I could stop him, Erik had propelled himself from my arms to the man's. Suddenly, a very smelly old man and a baby expressed their love and kinship. Erik, in an act of total trust, love, and submission, laid his tiny head upon the man's ragged shoulder. The man's eyes closed, and I saw tears hover beneath his lashes. His aged hands full of grime, pain, and hard labor, cradled my baby. No two beings have ever loved so deeply for so short a time. I stood, awestruck. The old man rocked and cradled Erik in his arms and his eyes opened and set squarely on mine. He said in a firm commanding voice, "You take care of this baby." Somehow I managed, "I will," from a throat that contained a stone. He pried Erik from his chest lovingly, as though he were in pain.
I received my baby, and the man said, "God bless you, ma'am; you've given me my Christmas gift." I said nothing more than a muttered thanks. With Erik in my arms, I ran for the car. My husband was wondering why I was crying and holding Erik so tightly and why I was saying, "My God, my God, forgive me." I had just witnessed Christ's love shown through the innocence of a tiny child who saw no sin, who made no judgment. The child saw a soul, and his mother saw a suit of clothes. I was a Christian who was blind holding a child who was not. I felt it was God asking, "Are you willing to share your son for a moment?" when He shared His for all eternity. The ragged old man, unwittingly, had reminded me, "And he said: "Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 18:3)

Pray Lord be with me 5/24/13 10:33 AM
Today's Story
Be With Me Lord
Hold me close, loving presence,
Be with me through the night hours;
Be with me through the day.
Hold thou my hand;
Guide thou my feet;
Comfort thou my heart.
Fill me with new resolve and a knowing all is well.
I trust myself, my life, my hopes, my dreams, my future,
to your care. Where I am, You are.
In my need, You answer me.
In my joy, You smile upon me.
When I cannot fathom the whys and werefores,
Your light shines steadily, beckoning me on to Truth
as yet unknown, to depths of
understanding as yet unguessed at.
Be with me Lord.
Hold me close today, tomorrow and in the days to come.
I am holding your hand.
I shall not fear.
Thank You, loving Lord.

Being thankful for Miracles 5/22/13 10:22 AM
Today's Story
Thank God for Miracles
It took a miracle from above
To create the world we see,
And it took a miracle of love
When Christ died on Calvary.
It took a miracle of God's power
To raise Jesus from the grave,
And it takes a miracle this hour…
For a lost soul to be saved…
Thank God for Miracles.
Yes, it takes a miracle of grace
To redeem a sinful soul,
And a wondrous miracle takes place
When God warms a heart grown cold.
Our Lord is good at miracles, friend,
His love and mercy are great,
His arm is stretched out to heal and mend…
And lift to a holy state…
Thank God for Miracles.
When we humbly serve our Lord each day,
And walk on the righteous path,
We see miracles along the way…
Souls saved from judgment and wrath.
Nothing is too hard for our great God
Who gives life forevermore…
Receive Jesus Christ, the Son of God,
And you'll enter heaven's door...
Thank God for Miracles.

Learn From One Another 5/21/13 10:33 AM
Learn From One Another
John 13:35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
One day, a man was walking across a bridge and saw another man standing on the edge, about to jump off. He immediately ran to him and said, "Stop! Don't do it!"
"Well, why shouldn't I?" he replied. The other said, "Well, there's so much to live for!"
"Like what"?
"Well … are you religious or atheist?"
"Religious."
"Me too! And are you Christian or Jewish?"
"Christian."
"Me too! Are you Catholic or Protestant?"
"Protestant." "Me too! Are you Episcopalian or Baptist?"
"Baptist."
"Wow! Me too! Are you Baptist Church of God or Baptist Church of the Lord?"
"Baptist Church of God."
"Me too! Are you Original Baptist Church of God, or are you Reformed Baptist Church of God?"
"Reformed Baptist Church of God."
"Me too! Are you Reformed Baptist Church of God, reformation of 1879, or Reformed Baptist Church of God, reformation of 1915?"
"Reformed Baptist Church of God, reformation of 1915!"
To which he said, "Die, you heretic!" and pushed him off the bridge.
The body of the Lord is one big family. Yes, we differ in opinion on some issues. But we are going to be together for eternity and we must learn to live in peace with one another! In order for us to make a real difference in the world, the world needs to see us loving each other.
Let's NOT be like the man who pushed the other off the bridge. Let's laugh about it and try to learn from one another.

An old Cowboy 5/20/13 9:34 AM
Today's Story
Appropriate Attire
One Sunday morning an old cowboy entered a church just before services were to begin. Although the old man and his clothes were spotlessly clean, he wore jeans, a denim shirt and boots that were very worn and ragged. In his hand he carried a worn out old hat and an equally worn out Bible. The church he entered was in a very upscale and exclusive part of the city. It was the largest and most beautiful church the old cowboy had ever seen. The people of the congregation were all dressed with expensive clothes and accessories.
As the cowboy took a seat, the others moved away from him. No one greeted, spoke to, or welcomed him. They were all appalled at his appearance and did not attempt to hide it. As the old cowboy was leaving the church, the preacher approached him and asked the cowboy to do him a favor. "Before you come back in here again, have a talk with God and ask him what he thinks would be appropriate attire for worship." The old cowboy assured the preacher he would.
The next Sunday, he showed back up for the services wearing the same ragged jeans, shirt, boots, and hat. Once again he was completely shunned and ignored. The preacher approached the man and said, "I thought I asked you to speak to God before you came back to our church." "I did," replied the old cowboy. "If you spoke to God, what did he tell you the proper attire should be for worshiping in here?" asked the preacher.
"Well, sir, God told me that He didn't have a clue what I should wear. He said He'd never been in here before."

Be Thankful 5/19/13 4:27 PM
Be Thankful
Be thankful that you don't already have everything you desire.
If you did, what would there be to look forward to?
Be thankful when you don't know something,
for it gives you the opportunity to learn.
Be thankful for the difficult times.
During those times you grow.
Be thankful for your limitations,
because they give you opportunities for improvement.
Be thankful for each new challenge,
because it will build your strength and character.
Be thankful for your mistakes.
They will teach you valuable lessons.
Be thankful when you're tired and weary,
because it means you've made a difference.
It's easy to be thankful for the good things.
A life of rich fulfillment comes to those who are also thankful for the setbacks.
Gratitude can turn a negative into a positive.
Find a way to be thankful for your troubles, and they can become your blessings.
