UNO³ Frustration 11/28/09 11:38 AM

I'm about to pull the plug on UNO³. The final straw was today's Top Winner game.

In order to finish in the money in a progressive or Top Winner game of UNO³, you MUST win all three rounds, and even that's not always enough. You can forget it if you lose a round, and if you lose two rounds, your score will be near the basement.

So I played the Top Winner game this morning. I won all three rounds with a sick score of 292. I also collected 9 Extra points (for making opponents draw cards) and a seemingly impressive 170 in Time Bonus (out of a possible 200), for a total of 471. I have no idea how I could have possibly improved on this score, except maybe to click just a little bit faster, so imagine my surprise when the standings came up and I was in 211th place.

211th!? Are you kidding me? In just a few hours yet.

As I said, I don't know how else I could have done better. If memory serves, I only drew one card total in all three rounds, other than when I was hit with a Draw Two. Yet somehow the leader managed to score 80 points better than me? WTF?

Yes, I know this sounds like whining, and probably is. However, it's now clear to me that there simply isn't enough skill to this game for me to be throwing much more money into it. I'll finish the diploma, of course, but after that, I'll only play it for free, unless I have money to burn, which right now, I don't.

If you continue to play it, take care and good luck. You'll need it!

Obviously it is pot luck, but I religiously play the 60cent jackpot tournament every day and win money at least once a week. This week I even won one! I break even or win a few bucks. So I like this game better then most.

I am not a poor sport, but there is obviously a way of cheating at Uno. How can Sparticus fr win multiple jackpots daily with ridiculous scores in the 600-700 range? It takes the fun out of playing the game!!!

...this will throw all the draws off by one and you'll get a totally new set of cards. To get the top score you need to catch the opponents with the wild cards and special cards, so sometimes it's even worth delaying going out if you know that you're going to get a low score in the round.

That's good thinking, but in cash games, you only get one play per tournament, even in progressives and Top Winners.

I agree that it's far too random but surely now you have a vital piece of information that can inform your next go in the tournament ie. How many more points you need. If there's a particular round where you didn't score much then try drawing a card first off instead of taking your 1st move (cont.)

Hi! I totally agree, no skill involved. I play it with my silver account and If I play it more than one time my score goes up with at least 200 points because I know when to turn or change color ie. I sometimes think players with more than 1 account at their home make the profit in UNO ;-)
