New Friend Request
Tracheotomy 6/9/11 2:07 AM
Today would have been a pretty good day had we not gotten the most horrible nurse imaginable. I won't dwell on that though but will try to stay focused on the positive.I was able to talk with the wound care nurse who was extremely helpful in explaining the procedures they are using to treat Ron's pressure sore. She showed me in pictures how his wound is improving slowly. The dead black skin has to come off before the actual wound can be staged. She allowed me to watch her cleaning it and showed me where new pink skin is growing in. There are some areas of more concern that will have to be debribed and possibly surgical intervention when Ron is stronger. I feel a little better about it but still very worried. Ron also got a tracheotomy today which was good because all the tubes were removed from his throat. He is still on ventilator but they are using the trach instead which is much more tolerable for Ron. He still can't breath on his own. With the ventilator still in, of course he still can't talk , but its a little easier to read both of his lips (with the tubes in, I could only see his bottom lip.) Another good thing was that the restraints were removed from his hands and arms today. I had to fight the nurse and a doctor to get that to happen, but they eventually came off. If Ron had come to after the tracheotomy and still been restrained, he would have gone ballistic. He is extremely claustrophobic and because he was finally pretty alert today the restraints were making him crazy. He's still running a fever. They packed ice around him today but the fever never did break. I was running around 102-103. Still on heavy antibiotics. His spirits were pretty good overall. He didn't want me to leave tonight but understood that I really needed to get some sleep. Speaking of that...good night.
I'm glad that he is progressing for the better. I pray and hope for the best for the both of you every day :) May God bless you both.
I come each day praying for good news and today sounds good.Keep your Faith in GOD as HE IS THERE FOR YOU BOTH.Keeping postive thoughts and many prayers for Ron & for you.Get some rest and lean on others as many people care. God Bless.Hugs Kathy
